Cliffs of Gallipoli

Music: Brodén Lyrics: Brodén/Sundström

Hear them whisper voices from the other side
Hear them calling
Former foes now friends are resting side by side

They will never leave our hearts or fade away
Live forever
They were far to young to die in such a way

How many wasted lives? how many dreams did fade away?
Broken promises they won’t be coming home
Oh mothers wipe your tears your sons will rest a million years
Found their peace at last as foe turn to friend and forgive
And they knew they would die

Gallipoli
Left their letters in the sand
Such waste of life
Gallipoli
Dreams of freedom turned to dust

Hell is waiting where the ocean meets the sand
Cliffs of burden
Where the soldiers rushed into a certain death

At the shoreline blood of heroes stains the land
Light a candle
One for each of them who fought and died in vain

There is no enemy there is no victory
Only boys who lost their lives in the sand
Young men were sacrificed their names are carved in stone and kept alive
And forever we will honour the memory of them
And they knew they would die

I guess this is the first song about the Gallipoli(Dardanelles Operation).
As a Turkish fan I really appreciate this song’s meaning and message it share to all of us.The lyrics’ including the words of the great commander and founder of Turkish Republic Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is awesome. This should also be the first song that includes his quotes and the message he carried to whole world about brotherhood even in the time of a great war and conflict.Thank you Sabaton…

  2. G’Day from Australia! Love this song Gallipoli. Congratulations on the moving lyrics that recognise the terrible loss of life. We remember the fallen every year on ANZAC Day, the anniversary of the landing. My band H.M.A.S. Vendetta also sing about military history. We have a song about the advance on Gallipoli, the retreat, and everything in between. We also have piano like you plus violin and cello! Love to play (and drink) with you boys some day.
To all the Swedish fuckers, a big Oi!!
