Brothers of Metal to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Brothers of Metal

Some call them the greatest metal band that ever existed. Even though they met both fame and fortune they still stayed modest. They never called themselves the greatest or the best, the most cunning. Because deep inside they know they are all that and more, they are mighty warriors of Valhalla chosen by Odin allfather. They play true metal that leave posers and wimps in shame of their way of life.

Metal Hammer will most likely give their upcoming album 12/10 giving Brothers of Metal their rightful place on the throne, as kings and queens of true metal. If you miss this battle, you shall forever live in regret and despair.
Come, watch the battle, become a believer.

Convivium to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Convivium

Convivium is a melodic trash metal band from the southern parts of Dalecarlia, Sweden. Formed in 2011, they play a fast and aggressive brand of metal that still retains an excellent sense of melody and harmony, providing a very complete listening experience. Combine that with absolutely slamming live shows and you have an extremely dangerous band on the rise!

This was recognized by the jury of Wacken Metal Battle when they awarded Convivium the 5th place in the world finals at Wacken Open Air, among very fierce competition. The band continued 2014 with the release of their explosive latest EP ”Staring Into Black”, appearances at Rockstad: Falun and several club gigs in Stockholm. In 2016 Convivium had the great honor of opening for Raubtier during Rovdjursturnén, taking them all across their homeland.

Mark Zero to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Mark Zero

Founded in Falun, Sweden in 2013 and now based in Gothenburg, Mark Zero is about creating music that truly reflects its members, which wasn’t always the case in some of their previous musical projects. Already playing together in a funk-rock quintet, guitarist John NT, bass player Kammo Olayvar and drummer Robin Risander realized their true calling was heavy metal, and having recruited Scott Crocker on guitars, Mark Zero was complete!

With strong melodies and meaningful lyrics in a dark soundscape with seriously detuned guitars, Mark Zero is now ready to show everyone what dedication and hard work can bring!

Hammerfall to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Hammerfall

There are quite a few of us who are happy over the fact that the HammerFall boys once went against the tide – and dared to stand (and deliver!) their metal, in a time when metal was in a coma.

EXCLUSIVE: Special Glory To the Brave session in Falun 2017!

Some 20 years and 9 studio albums later, HammerFall released their 10th, ”Built to Last”this fall. They are also introducing their new drummer, Johan Koleberg, who the SOA audience met last summer in Therion.

HammerFall is to consider one of the most iconic bands in their genre, and it’s with great pride we now can welcome them to Falun in August 2017 for a Friday headline show at Sabaton Open Air!

Or as the singer, Joacim Cans puts it:

”It is an honor to yet again share the stage with our friends in Sabaton, and this time on their home ground within the heart of Sweden. We have always had a nice fanbase there so we are really looking forward to once again deliver some ‘True German metal from Sweden!’ ;) “

HammerFall is headline act for Friday night with their Special Glory To the Brave session with Draupner!

Freedom Call to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Freedom Call

Freedom Call really don’t need much presentation. If you are a fan of Power Metal, you already heard them and probably liked them for years back!

Freedom Call was formed in 1998 by front man Chris Bay and his old friend Daniel Zimmermann (ex Gamma Ray) and their debut album “Stairway to Fairyland” was released in May 1999.
Their 9:th studio album “Master Of Lights” was released november 11 2016 and it’s another master piece by the band!

Freedom Call was supposed to play the 2010 issue of Sabaton Cruise, but got caught by the blizzards in Germany and had to cancel their show. Instead we re-booked them for the 2011 festival in Falun and since then they have not been back.. Until now for the 10:th anniversary in 2017!

As we said then:

– We can’t tell you how much we are looking forward to this awesome show!

Pain to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Pain

“Music is everything to me. I’ve been through two divorces and a whole world of s*it because of music but still it is the most important thing in the world to me. I’d rather have music than anything else.”

So speaks Peter Tägtgren, musician, producer and creative brain behind PAIN, Sweden’s finest industrial metal export. His has been a life immersed in music, in pushing boundaries, and taking ideas to both their logical and illogical extremes. It’s been a career that has involved fronting bands – notably iconic death metal veterans HYPOCRISY, and now PAIN – or shaping their sounds – as he has done with SABATON, CELTIC FROST, CHILDREN OF BODOM, DIMMU BORGIR and IMMORTAL amongst others.

After the substantial success of Peter’s LINDEMANN project with RAMMSTEIN vocalist Till Lindemann, he retreated and took time to write another industrial metal statement entitled “Coming Home” (Released in September 2016)

Last time we had PAIN on stage in Falun was back in 2011 and Peter had as his mission to pull off such a show that would make Sabaton’s special effects look pale and cheap. Did he succeed? And will he make another try now in August 2017? Be there and find out…

Thobbe Englund to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Thobbe Englund

Our dear friend Thobbe, the x-Sabaton guitar player, is confirmed to play the 2017 issue of Sabaton Open Air with his new band. We asked him for a short quote for this presentation, and this is his own words:

“Dear friends!

I have to tell you all how happy I am, and we as a band are, to play SoA this coming summer.
For me personally it’s connected to the best times in my life, and as a former member of Sabaton I of course have tons of wonderful memories from this festival.

Coming back with my own band is going to be so ”#€%&!) great, and seeing all of you Sabaton fans out there again is going to be wonderful. So, please give us your support and come to the show, and don’t forget to keep an eye out for my upcoming album early next year!

Dirkschneider to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Dirkschneider

The former Accept singer and heavy metal icon Udo Dirkschneider tours with his self-named band Dirkschneider and performs only classic Accept hit songs nowadays. And this show is just magnificent!

They have just completed a tour in Sweden with sold out shows both in Borlänge and Örebro, and we are sure that every single one that saw them went home with a big smile on their faces!
This is a hard & heavy trip back memory lane! For die hard Accept fans, this is religion.

We have actually had Udo Dirkschneider in Falun before making a guest appearance with Sabaton. That was back in 2011, and now he will be back for a full show on the 10:th anniversary of Sabaton Open Air!

Corroded to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Corroded

Corroded is finally back!

In 2010, on the first festival held on the Lugnet venue, we had Corroded playing as the first band out for that day.
Due to technical problems in the entrance many fans didn’t get in to see the full set.
Ever since that day we have tried to book them back, and now for the 10:th anniversary we finally nailed it!

Per Soläng, the meanest drummer in Sweden, states:
“Listen up folks…after 7 looong years its about time again…and we are SUPERSTOKED to announce our participation at one of Swedens best festivals, Sabaton Open Air 2017, can’t wait!!!
See you in August!”

We are very happy to announce that Corroded is back on the Lugnet venue again, in full power!

Månegarm to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Månegarm

MÅNEGARM Returns to Sabaton Open Air

These Viking metal veterans started out in 1995 in Norrtälje, Sweden and was one of the early bands to play Pagan/Viking metal before this style became a big trend. The use of traditional instruments like violins and flute but also female vocals in their metal music came in early and over the course of nine studio albums the Swedes have developed their gripping mix of death/black metal, paired with well thought out folk arrangements.

MÅNEGARM celebrated their 20th anniversary in 2015 with releasing a brand new self-titled album “Månegarm” which received great reviews.

The band last visited us in 2013 and we are so happy having them back as they have become one of our most wanted bands to return over the years!

Rotting Christ to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Rotting Christ

Ascending from the Greek soil and the early days of Black Metal, the Tolis brothers have held the metal banner high for almost 30 years. During their musical evolution, Rotting Christ has involved hints of goth, doom and industrial metal in their creations, but are still highly active within the realms of extreme metal – where they once started.

Their musical footprint has been spread around the world with their numerous world tours, so we are very proud to announce their coming to Sabaton Open Air next summer.

ShadowQuest to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

ShadowQuest

ShadowQuest, in its earliest form, was conceptualized more than two years ago.
Ronny and Ragnar had been writing songs for a long while, when they came across a singer they thought would fit the music perfectly. Patrik, being a fan of both Dionysus and Sinergy, was very interested and happily accepted the spot as vocalist.

Ronny and Kaspar had been collaborating since the years in Dionysus, and it was with honour that Kaspar grabbed the keyboard wizardry position. Both Jari and Peter had been involved in various projects with Ronny, and two phone calls later the band was complete.

”We are extremely happy to have found each other”, Patrik says. ”Six persons that are stable and easy-going, as well as dedicated and having the same taste in music and music writing. It simply is not easy to find. In addition, we all share the same rotten humour. Epic.”

Coming up with the band name was a process. It is hard work to find a name that everyone can agree on and feel for. A number of names was discarded, sooner or later, until the band decided for ShadowQuest.
Artwork magician Thomas Holmstrand, who is known for logotypes and art work for Dionysus, Sinergy and Saint Deamon etc., was hired to design an artwork concept for the band.

Musically, ShadowQuest is a mixture of many influences. Traces of Dionysus can be heard, spiced with heavier guitar work signed by Widerberg/Huss. Ronny’s ambition was to create a musical landscape in the vein of ”Painkiller” and ”Keeper of the Seven Keys”. Patrik added scents and flavours of Avantasia, while Kaspar worked hard to go deeper into the lyrical well he had been exploring with Dionysus and later Ride the Sky.

Grimner to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Grimner

Sweden’s six-headed hird Grimner incorporate folk instruments into their own melodic, yet aggressive brand of metal. With lyrics that honour the norse gods and fallen warriors of old (explicitly sung in Swedish), they have taken enthusiasts of both metal and folk music by storm.

The band has recently performed at major folk metal festivals in Europe as well as being support act for Korpiklaani. Their latest full-length album “Frost Mot Eld” (2016, Despotz Records) has taken Grimner to the next level, an album that gives a new touch to the mix of folk and metal – resulting in outstanding reviews.

On stage Grimner gives a dynamic, intensive and jovial performance.
No matter if you are a fan of folk metal or not – this is something you should check out!

Follow the Cipher to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Follow The Cipher

Follow the Cipher is a metal band that started in 2014 when Ken Kängström decided he wanted to do his own thing. Ken is known for writing songs together with Joakim Brodén for Sabaton on the albums “Carolus Rex”, “Heroes” and “The Last Stand” albums.

Ken started to write songs while he auditioned for singers and stumbled upon the fantastic and beautiful vocalist Linda Toni Grahn, and from there on, Follow the Cipher was created.

Follow the Cipher represent a dirty, dry, rusty and lonesome environment in a devastated future, collapsed by a careless consequence of our past mistakes. The rebellion (The Cipher) is a clan of deserters acting as a force against the new world’s brutality and depression.

FTC describes this environment in an adventurous way with the theme of their music and the lyrics within it.

The Storyteller to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

The Storyteller

The Storyteller – Heavy / Power Metal with medieval melodies.
That is the band’s own characterization of the style they play.

This is a trademark that really speaks to what the band delivers and together with fast, melodic metal with fantasy lyrics, The Storyteller became one of the major posternames in the Swedish Power Metal scene.

TS is a seasoned band with six studio albums in the backpack, and over the years the band has been appearing with bands like Helloween, Blind Guardian, HammerFall, Stratovarious, Sonata Artica, GammaRay others …
They have also played at the major festivals in the Nordic countries where their live performances have been very appreciated.

L-G Persson Who is the singer of The Storyteller says:
“We are really looking forward to playing on Sabaton Open Air wich is one of the major festivals on offer within the metal scene. We’re just writing material for a seventh album, which will continue the story from album nr 1 & 2 and Sabaton Open Air will be a perfect opportunity to introduce some of the new songs – but we will also deliver all our old favourites that the audience loves.”

Lancer to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Lancer

LANCER met at the Music Academy of Ingesund in Arvika, Sweden, and the common passion for heavy metal forged them together and LANCER was born. They invaded the metal scene in the spring of 2012 with their debut EP “Purple Sky”. The EP got a warm welcome from all around the world and gave the band a record deal with the Swedish label Doolittle Group AB, owned by the famous metal vocalist Christian Liljegren (Narnia), and they also signed a deal with Japanese label King Records at this time.

In early 2013 the follow up to the “Purple Sky” EP, LANCER’s self-titled debut album was released worldwide. The album was produced by Tommy Johansson (Sabaton) and Ronny Milianowicz (previous collaborations with Hammerfall, Michael Kiske and Timo Tolkki to name a few!), and it received great reviews from all around the world. Japanese Burrn Magazine gave the album 75/100 and Sweden Rock Magazine 7/10, naming the band a new hope for European power metal, and it received even higher grades from several European and American reviewers. LANCER’s music videos for the songs Purple Sky and Young and Alive have also been aired on Metal Hammer Greece’s own TV channel.

LANCER’s sophomore album “Second Storm” was a lesson in melodic metal and followed a long tradition of outstanding Swedish metal bands like Hammerfall, Sabaton and many more! The album was recorded in the world famous Leon Music Studios with producer Gustav Ydenius (Sister Sin, Mustasch, Enforcer).
Being released on Despotz Records in April 2015, ”Second Storm” earned amazing reviews from metal press all over the world, naming the band future successors to the throne of melodic metal. During the fall of 2015 LANCER joined German power metal band Freedom Call on support act tour, and received a fantastic reception from the fans!

When LANCER announced that they would start the recordings of their third album in May 2016, the renowned German metal label Nuclear Blast Records reached out to the band, and a new record deal was signed. This time the band chose to let the world famous producer Miro (Avantasia, Rhapsody, Kamelot) of Gate Studio, Wolfsburg, master the album. The third album “Mastery” will be out worldwide in January 2017, and in connection to this the band will embark on a European tour together with HammerFall and Gloryhammer!

Forever Still to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Forever Still

Forever Still are a completely honest and emotional in-your-face heavy rock band with no excuses. The band’s wide array of brooding beats, atmospheric electronic textures, and stocky guitar riffs, all compliment vocal powerhouse Maja Shining’s emotionally revealing lyrics, which range from soft lullaby tones to scathing and aggressive full throttle screams.

Hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, and consisting of Maja Shining, Mikkel Haastrup, Maja Partsch, and Dennis Stockmarr, the band have built a large following by delivering breath-taking shows fuelled by a consecutive level of very high quality releases – this is no small feat, especially for a truly DIY band with no major backing.

In 2013, Forever Still released their debut EP “Breaking Free” to extensive critical acclaim and widely toured the record throughout Scandinavia. The following year the band returned to the studio to record the first of three EPs that now make up their full-length concept album ‘Tied Down’. The record grapples with a glut of personal issues stemming from depression, anxiety, and worthlessness, through to perseverance and recovery. The first EP picked up glowing reviews, as did the second record entitled ‘Save Me’. The sophomore EP was released in April 2015 and Forever Still undertook a hugely successful European tour, which saw the rocksters headline their first run of UK dates.

Forever Still has now unleashed their eagerly awaited debut full length album “Tied Down” in January, which is followed by extensive European touring

Avatar to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Avatar

The clown has snuck out from the circus and is climbing through your bedroom window. Now he wants to tell you a story…

Avatar build their vast universe on a few very simple principals. All great metal is created by understanding that the riff is king and that the riff is groove. Whether it’s a blast beat or a back beat, you need to understand the vessel in which your riff will be carried. Once it takes off, all you need to do is follow. Let the music play you. This is how it’s supposed to be.

Hailing from Gothenburg, Sweden the lads grew up in the eye of a storm of local musicians made up of metal greats and legends who conquered the world and redrew the map of heavy metal on a monthly basis. This was the measuring stick, and the group have proudly taken on the challenge ever since.

Eclipse to Sabaton Open Air 2017!

Eclipse

Frontiers Music Srl is pleased to announce the release of the hotly anticipated fifth studio album from ECLIPSE, “Monumentum” on March 24, 2017.

Two years after the successful release of the “Armageddonize” album around the globe, Eclipse have established themselves as rising stars with audiences in Australia, Japan, America, and Europe (including the 3.5 million viewers who saw Eclipse’s debut on Swedish national television at Melodifestivalen 2016).

With the musical development and maturity shown across the board on their last two albums, “Bleed and Scream” and “Armageddonize,” the future has become clear: these guys are destined for stardom! And now with their new album, aptly entitled “Monumentum,” band’s amazing abilities are truly on display for the world to hear.

After touring extensively for two years in support of “Armageddonize”, Eclipse’s main songwriters Erik Mårtensson and Magnus Henriksson reconvened in Erik’s new studio in the Swedish countryside in late summer 2016 and started writing new songs. The intention was to write and record an album with no compromise on either song quality or musical performance from the band.

Singer, songwriter and producer Erik Martensson says: “With every album, one’s way of writing music changes a bit. What you thought was exciting and interesting while writing one album can radically change when you start writing the next. I think we have brought in quite a few new tricks in the writing and recording process while still staying true to our sound. In the end, it all boils down to if it’s good or bad songs and I think this is the best album we’ve done. In my opinion there is not one single weak song on the album and I’m really proud of it!”

We know saying your latest album is the best you’ve done is the oldest cliché in rock music, and so instead of taking our word for it, tune in and listen to the killer opening track “Vertigo” here: https://youtu.be/vAM5159IW4E It’s melodic rock that’s respectful of the roots of the genre, but with sights set firmly on the future. Fans of the band will not be disappointed and newcomers can look forward to hard rocking tunes with massive hooks from the first to the final track.

As Erik puts it: “When I go and see a band I just want to hear songs that make me wanna put my fist in the air and scream along, and I want everyone around me to do the same. Well, Monumentum is one giant fist waiting for a chanting crowd of rockers. We can’t wait for the people to hear it!”

Better be ready: ECLIPSE are coming to kick your ass!
