Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, also known as the “Red Baron”, was a fighter pilot with the German Air Force and he is one of the most iconic heroes of The Great War. He simultaneously embodies the mechanization of modern war and a romanticized version of war with his individual skill and heroism.
